Interrupted our delicious breakfast to journal. Pancakes, duck egg scramble, grits with agave... fresh pressed coffee... gourmet cabin style. Best breakfast yet- all perfectly cooked on the wood stove. Freezing rain is softly pitter-pattering on the exposed canvas, all the snow shaken off and piled around the circle. Cozy. The place looks pretty idyllic... snow spattered tipi, blending in with the white landcape, puffs of smoke curling out of the silver pipe and a streak of colorful flags dancing in the breeze. Something like 6 inches of fluffy white snow fell through the night and greeted us this morning. We were barely able to get the door flap open -sending huge chunks of snow piling in the entryway.
Smokey's been having a ball.. cutting laps in the fluffy white snow... returning inside speckled with a fresh white coat. Casey and I giggled like 6 year olds throughout the night, listening excitedly to the snow and sticking our faces out to catch a glimpse of the ever-whitening forest... returning in with white hair and eyelashes.
Just as we were about to head to sleep last night the snow got started. Super excited, we changed our plans --cranked up the radio, grabbed some Pacifico and chips with salsa, queso, and guacamole. It was super warm all night with the blankets. I actually woke up sweating a couple of times. Smokey crawled face first into Casey's sleeping bag and the two of them cuddled all night :) I almost cried this morning when I saw her sweet sleepy face sticking out of Casey's bag in his arms!
May we be fortunate enough to spend the rest of our lives like this... outside, connected to nature, surrounded by winter snow with a warm fire, hearty meals and lots of... love.
Time to sled... or at least try to make it out of the driveway!
