It's been a great morning... woke up at 6:30, warm and cozy under the covers, made a fire all by myself (well mostly), fixed coffee, and relaxed with Casey for an hour or so while the sun worked its way up over the misty woods. We've had a lot of rain... the road is a mess. So Smokey and I walked Casey up to the car in the field to see him off to work. We then wandered around by the foggy creek, admiring the sound of its full flowing waters and the bright mossy green colors contrasting with the dark damp tree bark and blankets of white snow. We wandered down an old trail, maybe used by deer now along the creek. The air was so moist, the ground damp and almost marshy. The tall privet bowed beautifully under the big mossy trees. Every now and then a bird would sing to the morning. That reminds me... last night we heard the craziest coyote screams and yelps. Gunshots were going off after dark and what sounded like a whole pack of coyotes were making their eerie, almost alien yip-yip-howl noises. Pretty scary... and intriguing.
The sun is starting to shine through the clouds now and the tipi is turning a brighter shade of yellow. Smokey's snoozing on her bed beside me. The red wool shag rug is warm and soft underneath me as I sit and breathe here by the fire.
A much needed restful day.
