The Early Days

We soon relocated our mountaineering tent from Brett, Whatley, and Gil's backyard :) to a gorgeous spot in the woods on the farm.

The beautiful home site sits nestled in the sloping hillside, overlooking a muddy stream, surrounded on all sides by mountain bike trails... and watched over by a regal old beech tree with centuries-old family names carved in the bark. Boards from an old deer stand cling to a group of trees... looking more like the remnants of a child's forgotten tree house. Most of the trees here are young, but the woods are dense and moist, carrying a heavy, almost mysterious feel as only Southeastern woods do.

After spending some time in a "real house" back in Griffin, we realized how much we'd come to love being outside... the feel of the soft dirt under your back, the murmur of the forest during the night, and aligning your body clock with natural rhythms (lights out at dark).

We enjoyed those early days... cozying up in our sleeping bags in our tiny tent, getting up early to make coffee and head to work, and getting plans rolling for our new home being pieced together in Colorado.
