My hands don't seem to want to conform to this pen, maybe from too much use today. That's a good thing. Today was probably the best day yet. Like Ann wrote, we finally forgot what day it was, what time it was, and were able to truly relax and enjoy life again. Haven't felt like this since our trip this summer. Too bad I'll be slammed in the face with the "real world" tomorrow morning, oh well.
List of what we did today: woke up, ate pancakes and grits with hot chocolate coffee, finished splitting the wood, laid in the hammock and read some Desert Solitaire then grabbed Smoker and we laid together, swaying in the wind, sunlight flickering in and out as the hammock rocked back and forth - into the sunrays and out, which were blocked partially by the rustling dead leaves, the last of which haven't made it back to the earth. I noticed a nice tree (Beech) while swinging in the hammock and decided I should probably climb it - been wanting an aerial view of the place anyway. Made it up about 25 feet before it got too risky. Almost didn't make it a foot with Smokey jumping and biting my feet at the start. Decided I should probably bring the tarp, our raincover, down since one of the poles was starting to wear a hold in it. Tied some string to each of the rope ends and pulled the tarp down. Noticed that on one side the string had become tangled and was suspended 15 feet in the air. The only fix was to climb the skinny tree like a pole and snag it and bring it down. Went pretty smoothly except for damn Smokey snapping at my shoes again. Eventually got the tarp down and folded ready to be pulled up for the next chance of rain. Went to Lowes and bought some more pipe to run under the deck which will hopefully help draw more air into the stove. Installed it while Ann worked on the compost. Eventually went and helped her hammer the supporting poles into the ground with the maul. Afterwards we wrapped the netting around the poles and staked it into the ground to help keep critters (mainly Smokey) out. Our neighbors Ravi and his girlfriend swung by and checked the place out.
Started a fire at about 5:00 PM as the sun was setting - it was setting noticeably colder. Ravi said it's supposed to be the coldest night this year, so we'll see how it goes. Ate some delicious quinoa that Ann cooked on the stove. Now drinking some wine, gotta put more wood in the fire. All 3 of us are in a line on the floor in front of the fire. Smokey to my left, curled up in her sleeping bag, then Ann on my right, reading.
What a day!
